New publication: The Leonardo programme as a tool for the in-service training of VET teachers

The publication, available also in English, is a compilation of the documents of the conference held in December 2005. Besides the edited version of the key-note presentations, it contains the description of some 20 Leonardo projects selected as best practices in the field.

The theme of the conference and the publication is linked to the international valorization project „The changing role of VET teachers and trainers” coordinated by the Finnish Leonardo National Agency and granted by the European Commission.

The constantly arising innovations concerning work organisation and technology as well as the importance of establishing and maintaning international relations require constant learning from VET teachers and trainers. Although the Leonardo programme offers the possibility to develop e.g. training, material, modules or courses to support this process, there have been only a few projects throughout Europe that focused on training of teachers. It is so much the more reasonable to look at results achieved until now and formulate what has to be done.
However, the contribution of the Leonardo programme to the training of VET teachers is not limited to pilot projects. In the mobility measure several teacher exchanges are realized year after year developing teachers’ vocational and pedagogical skills. Leonardo projects implemented by the same institution every year make permanent in-service training abroad a reality.
