The future of Erasmus Mundus
The European Commission adopted a proposal to continue the Erasmus Mundus programme. The new generation of Erasmus Mundus aims to become the EU reference programme for cooperation with third countries in the area of higher education. Also, it intends to enhance the attractivness of the European Higher Education Area and to support further dialogue and understanding between peoples and cultures.
In the period 2009-13 just over 950 million euros will be available for European and third country universities to launch joint masters and doctoral programmes of outstanding academic quality and to provide scholarships for EU and third-country students and academics. The main novelties of the new generation of Erasmus Mundus are the following: extension of the programme to doctoral studies, partially, to the undergraduate level and to offer more attractive scholarships for European students.
